Pitching Oprah Magazine:

In fact, getting features in O helps increase sales of one entrepreneur by 60% in just 30 days. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The mention brings much-needed awareness to causes close to heart-breast cancer. Thanks to Oprah magazine the issue is now visible on a large scale. Knowing how valuable it is to get featured in O, you should consider your competitors and understand that, like The Oprah Winfrey Show, the standards in magazines are some of the hardest in the industry. O magazine prides itself on being a publication judging beauty, courage, attention to better relationship points, and people doing amazing things in the world. Here Are 3 Things You Should Know If You Want to Be Featured in O, The Oprah Magazine:

What does Oprah want?

 1. Your product packaging should be beautiful. If the packaging of your own products and products is not an eye-stopper, it most likely won’t be in O, The Oprah Magazine. Jeanine Boiko of J9 Public Relations, who put her client Bonjour Fleurette in the magazine three times for three different products, has this rule of thumb: “For a product to work in O, ask yourself this: if you walk past your product on a shelf somewhere, will it catch your attention and make you stop? It should have unique and attractive packaging that will shoot well. My advice, especially for new business owners, is not to play cheap with packaging. At the end of the day, it’s all about pulling your packaging.”  2. Your pitch should be meaningful. So, before you make a pitch, covet a suggestion from The Oprah Magazine Executive Articles Editor Dawn Raffel that says magazines teach people how to live their best lives: “It’s about realizing your own greatest potential and also about making a contribution to others.” Do you want to write about yourself, be written about, or write about others, ask yourself these two questions : • Do you make a difference in a big way?• Do you make a difference in a way that’s important to Oprah? Genevieve Piturro, founder of the Pajama Project, got “yes” on both counts. His charity gives new pyjamas to abused and impoverished children, many of whose mothers are in prison.

How to Get into O, the Oprah Magazine

Some of these kids have never had pajamas, and certainly not new. When you think about kids going to bed at night in a pair of fresh pyjamas instead of tattered, dirty clothes, it brings up the picture of safety and home. Pitturo scored a big goal on two points: He tapped into one of Oprah’s key areas: abused children. And he created an extraordinary effort that caught the interest of many, given the emotional pull of the story. It made me want to hurry up and buy pajamas and donate money for this worthy purpose.  3. Your pitch should be well written. Reader O expects the content to dig deeper into emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being on many levels. Oprah magazine gave this hope by finding top writers and freelancers from national magazines and the best newspapers in the country. They are looking for writers from publications like the New York Times to Wired to write about topics as diverse as women’s bondage to how men actually felt about breast implants until the death of their beloved dog.  You can be interviewed by this experienced writer or write a feature on a topic that touches the hearts of readers of O magazine. It may take 1 to 2 years to get published in O, The Oprah Magazine. But I haven’t met one soul who says it’s not worth it.
